Confusing Online Slots – When Developers Get Too Creative

Thanks to new formats, features, and innovations, the internet slots world appears to be more exciting than ever before. However, all of this innovation can occasionally lead to confusing online slots.

Recently, I’ve opened up a few games and wondered what the hell was going on. These slots look like a puzzling mess of moving parts.

I’m all for features that push slots to the next level. However, I’m not a big fan of games that are downright bewildering.

Example of Confusing Online Slots

One of the strangest games that I’ve played lately is Magnetz (pictured above) from Relax Gaming. This slot features four different 3×4 grids along with “magnetz” in the middle of the gameplay area.

Multiple grids in the same slot is nothing new. However, the format/style that Relax uses definitely muddles the issue.

The symbols shoot in from the sides of the grids. You’ll also see the four magnetz in the middle flip over to reveal symbols.

The basic jest is that these magnetz unlock respins when they match a winning combination in their respective grid. However, they merely add to the confusion of four grids and symbols shooting from an awkward angle.

Additionally, the screen view is really small. Therefore, it’s hard to see what exactly is going on at all times.

How Can Developers Balance the Features and Learning Curve?

I think that Magnetz is a fun game once you get past all of the initial BS. However, it certainly presents some challenges with regard to learning how it works.

Developers need to do a better job of balancing the features and learning curve in some cases. I could see many gamblers quickly exiting out of Magnetz just because it’s hard to grasp at first.

It’s not the only slot that’s difficult to understand in the beginning. Many other developers and slots go a little too far with features/formats and need to tone things down.
