However, this is a 1 percent decrease from the previous year, when Pennsylvania slot machines earned $2.36 billion.

Figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board show that the state’s slot machines earned approximately $24 million less than in 2016.

Breakdown of Pennsylvania Slots Revenue

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, slot machines generated the following at local Pittsburgh casinos:

Rivers Casino on the North Shore generated $269.8 million in 2017 slots revenue – This is a 1.77 percent increase.

Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington County generated $214.3 million – This is a 3.31 percent decrease.

Lady Luck Casino at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort generated $30.1 million – This is a 2.8 percent increase.

As you can see, at least Lady Lucky Casino managed to increase its slots revenue from the previous year. But the other two Pittsburgh casinos took in fewer slots profits.

Pennsylvania has 12 casinos in all, and most of them were down in terms of slots revenue.

Still a Good Year Overall

While the Keystone State can’t be happy about their lack of slots growth in 2017, there’s some good news to report. Pennsylvania slot machines topped $2.3 billion for the seventh consecutive year.

Given that most states don’t even make $1 billion overall from their casino gambling revenue, Pennsylvania has reason to celebrate.

They can also take solace in the fact that the slot machines produced almost $1.2 billion in revenue for state projects and property tax reductions. Pennsylvania taxes slots revenue at 54 percent, which is one of the highest rates in the country.

It’s unclear what we can expect heading into 2018. But the state would likely be happy if their slot machines can replicate what they made in 2016.

Whether or not they can pull off this feat will likely depend upon how the nation’s economy goes in 2018. After all, casino gaming revenue is loosely tied to economic performance.

Pennsylvania made $2.33 billion in slots revenue in 2017.
