Woman Wins $1.6m Slots Jackpot at Vegas’ McCarran Airport

They say that you should never play slot machines at an airport. But don’t tell that to Sandra A. because she’s $1.6 million richer after winning at a Vegas airport.

Sandra was playing slots at McCarran International Airport on Tuesday. KTNV 13 reports that her windfall came on the popular Wheel of Fortune slot machine.

The Dublin, California native didn’t offer many details on herself. In fact, she only gave an initial for her last name after winning the $1.6 million slots jackpot.

But she did say that she travels to Vegas twice a year and always hits the casinos. Here’s the full excerpt on the story from McCarran Airport’s Facebook page:

Congratulations to Sandra A. of Dublin, Calif. She won more than $1.6 million playing a Wheel of Fortune slot machine yesterday in McCarran’s C Concourse.

Sandra says she travels to Las Vegas twice a year just for pleasure and always gambles.

Her gamble sure paid off this trip! If you’re 21 or older, try your luck at the airport. You could be our next big winner.

Why should You Avoid Airport Slots?

Obviously playing slot machines at McCarran International Airport paid off for Sandra A. But there’s a very good reason why you normally want to avoid playing at airports – low payback.

According to the Wizard of Odds, the McCarran Airport ranks dead-last among all major Vegas destinations in terms of payback. And this is out of 71 possible destinations!

Their slots offer 85.02% payback. Putting this into perspective, the average online slots game pays back between 95% and 96%.

Does this mean that you’re doomed to lose every time at an airport? Obviously not because Sandra A. is now a millionaire thanks to playing at McCarran.

But you’re far better off just going to a regular casino or playing online slots. Even if you don’t win big, you’ll at least give yourself the best possible chance to get frequent wins at casinos.
