Slots Graphics and How They’ve Changed Over the Years

If you’ve played slot machines for any measurable time period, you’re likely aware of just how much these games have improved. Better slots graphics are a key reason behind this improvement.

Today’s slots now offer stellar 3D graphics that really enhance your experience. You’ll be just as impressed by the visuals as you will the gameplay.

That said, I’m going to explore the evolution of slots graphics and how they’ve changed. I’ll start with the early days and work my way up to what’s happening these days.

Slots Graphics in the Early Days

Slot machines came about in the 1890s. Charles Fey invented the Liberty Bell during this year.

The Liberty Bell used cards as symbols and operated on mechanical reels. Therefore, it wasn’t the most-technologically advanced game.

The gaming world began taking a leap in the 1930s and 40s. This era marks the point when developers began using better-looking, albeit basic, symbols.

Video Slots Come About

Up until the 1970s, slot machines still operated through mechanical reels. They also used the same type of basic symbols as in the 1940s.

However, the advent of video slots in the seventies changed all of this. Video slot machines operate through video technology and give developers more control over how games look.

Of course, the earliest video slots were nothing special from a visual standpoint. However, they paved the way for what was to come.

Move to 3D Graphics

The latest step up in slots graphics includes 3D games. A 3D slot features crisp visuals that really make slot machines shine.

You can truly see the detail in symbols and backgrounds when 3D graphics are involved. Not surprisingly, many developers now stick to the 3-dimensional world.

Some producers are even moving into 4D graphics as well. The latter will bring about yet another visual improvement to slots.
