Detroit Woman wins $2m Slots Jackpot at Greektown Casino

greek-town-casinoA Detroit-area woman will be celebrating Christmas early after winning a $2 million jackpot. She hit the massive payout at Greektown Casino, and this is the largest slots prize in Detroit history.

The woman has been playing for years at Greektown, which opened in 2000. And she happened to be playing Wheel of Fortune slot when the windfall came. But instead of realizing that she just won a life-changing payout, the anonymous woman thought that she’d somehow broken the slot machine.

“I saw the winning combination come across the line and the machine went dark,” she said. “I thought, I just killed the machine. The machine then lit back up and revealed I had won over $2 million and I thought, wow, I really did kill it!”

The newly minted millionaire says that she’s going to use her money to buy a new dress and take a couple trips to Disney World and Cabo, Mexico.

Her $2,005,393 payout surpasses the old record for a Detroit slots jackpot, which was $1.77 million. Of course, this is still quite a ways from the biggest slots payout of all time.

In 2003, a software engineer from Los Angeles won $39.7 million while playing Megabucks at Excalibur Casino. This record prize is trailed closely by the $34.9 million that Vegas cocktail waitress Cynthia Jay-Brennan won. Unfortunately for Jay-Brennan, her car was rear-ended by a drunk driver just six weeks later, which paralyzed her and killed her sister.

The largest slots win at an online casino (in terms of euros) is a €17,879,645 payout earned by British solider Jonathan Heywood earlier this year.
