Bulgarian Slots Hackers Arrested After Stealing a Fortune

Bulgaria has arrested four individuals who hacked into the country’s slot machines and stole money. The Bulgarian slots hackers were taken down through an operation run by the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC).

The GDCOC’s cybercrime unit arrested the men on grounds that they used a sophisticated scheme for gaining remote access to casino slot machines. This allowed the criminals to manipulate spin results of the machines and make large profits.

Bulgarian Slots Hackers Each Carried Out a Specific Role

Casino Daily News reports that each of the men involved in the caper played a role in stealing the slots money.

One person simulated playing slot machines, while the others used remote access to the games to change their outcomes. Another member of the gang secured remote access to the slot machines before they could be manipulated.

One of the individuals is also charged with creating the devices that were used to cheat the slot machines.

Money and Devices Seized

The GDCOC caught onto the slots hackers after discovering a large theft at an unnamed casino. They raided the gang’s property and seized a huge sum of money along with the devices they used to alter slots results.

Bulgarian authorities currently have the men detained and are awaiting charges under the country’s laws. Court proceedings can continue once charges have officially been leveled.

Slots Scams Have Grown More Sophisticated

Slot machine scams have become more technologically advanced over the years. One of the earliest scams involved Tommy Carmichael and his Monkey’s Paw. This was a simple device that could reach into slot machines and steal quarters.

Nowadays, these scams have advanced to the point where computer hackers use advanced technology to manipulate results. This includes the Bulgarian slots hackers, who may have gotten away with their scam if not for the authorities also possessing strong tech capabilities.
